I couldn't see it on my cell phone screen, if that's what you are using. I could only see it on my regular computer screen.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Where?

The moon is blindingly bright when looking through a telescope and eyepiece designed for planetary viewing. That's like shoving a camera into a lightbulb and trying to photograph your unlit closet behind. I'm surprised with the shutterspeed necessary to make the moon look like a normal photo he was able to resolve Saturn out at all, especially since he wouldn't have a large window of time to get that shot, a second or two at that power.pioneer98 wrote:Saturn and the Moon in the same picture. He did have to play with contrast and brightness of it to get Saturn to show up in the image, but still pretty mind-blowing.

I agree. For a lot of his pictures he uses multiple images and then merges them. That way he can combine very different settings, even filters, into the same picture. He claims he didn't do that with this one, but I don't know.AdmiralKird wrote:The moon is blindingly bright when looking through a telescope and eyepiece designed for planetary viewing. It looks like there are a lot of Saturn osculation pictures that show the two like that or similar quality. Some are obviously fake due to resolving Saturn's moons in the same image. Not sure how they all did it.
Also I was just refreshing myself on the Solar Eclipse coming up in roughly three years from today. It will be the first total solar eclipse in the mainland US since the 70's: http://eclipses.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEmono/TS ... E2017.html

It's on a Monday. If Busch has a day game it will stop play, but won't be completely total from Busch, it would have to be built about a mile south for that.

Three years. Three years until the first eclipse in the Lower 48 since 1970. I hope I don't die. My first plan is to see the eclipse in Wyoming, but if the Cardinals are home that day I might have to combine eclipse viewing with baseball. It's on a Monday so the Cards would presumably be playing at night.
If I were Bill DeWitt I'd want to be home that weekend. Maybe hand out eclipse shades as a promotion for the Sunday game.

Featuring detailed maps of the path, showing among other things that the path of totality skims southern St. Louis but just misses Busch Stadium.

I thought there was a total eclipse in the 90s? Seems like we kind of stopped school for an hour or so to view it.

Yeah. I built a bunch of those home made viewer things so I could look at it.IMADreamer wrote:I thought there was a total eclipse in the 90s? Seems like we kind of stopped school for an hour or so to view it.
