Rant: Just can't seem to shake the blues
It's hard blame it on any one thing but man I've just been down lately. I don't know if it's the end of summer, or the hot weather, or my hurting back but I'm just kind of sit around wallowing in a ball of sadness lately. It sucks. I want to be happy again, excited about things, loving life.

Ima, has this been an ongoing thing for you, or just short term? If it's short term then it may be something you can ride out, but if it's gone on for some time you may want to talk to a doctor.
I had depression since my teens, but I was 35 years old when I ran across a questionnaire that told me I had a problem I didn't know I had. Even though the meds took care of the depression I waited another 18 years to realize that even though not depressed any more, I was never a happy person. He prescribed and additional med, and it's really made a difference in my mood and energy level.
I say all of that to tell you if this had been lingering don't put off seeing a doctor about it. I spent a lot of years being in an unnecessarily bad state of mind just because I didn't understand that I had a problem.

I'm no expert, but I'm a natural born mental drifter too. Nothing chronic, but when I'm too down, I notice it's because I'm spending too much time in the past or fretting over things I can't change.
Putting something on the schedule to look forward to helps.
I.e.
Plan for, vacation or a road trip.
Give yourself some sort of accomplishable task or challenge
Exercise.

I don't know how long it's been going on. Certainly a while, but not forever. When you go see the doctor do you just see the regular doctor or are we talking seeing a Cronos type doctor?
I've really been trying to look forward to the Labor Day weekend. It's rare we aren't harvesting during it and this happens to be one of those years. I have a few things planned but in my stupid head I'm already dreading Monday night when it's all over. I know that's not how to look at but it's how I'm feeling right now.

Just a thought, self imposed sabbaticals or limiting of passive activities, like internet and GRB can help

I just copied a page off the internet that described the symptoms of depression, marked the ones that applied to me, and went to an MD. If he does prescribe some meds it may take some experimenting to get the right drug and dosage.IMADreamer wrote:I don't know how long it's been going on. Certainly a while, but not forever. There are several tests on line that can help you see if you may have a problem. I do know that I would rather be physically sick than go through some of the mental illness episodes I had.

I would add that many general practitioners, while technically ABLE to prescribe anti-depressants, probably shouldn't. If your GP agrees that you could benefit from some sort of med therapy, I would possibly seek a referral.
Also, don't be shy about seeking counseling as well. Sometimes it takes a combination of meds and therapy to restore a good healthy balance.

That's not a bad idea. Typically when I'm on GRB I'm stuck somewhere. Like today I'm basically baby sitting my office which is dead because of the heat so here I am on GRB. I've definitely done way to much internet lately .Freed Roger wrote:Just a thought, self imposed sabbaticals or limiting of passive activities, like internet and GRB can help

you can talk to your regular doctor about depression. they might recommend speaking with someone, which mine did, but that was/is not an avenue that helps me. she also prescribed me prozac and ive been off and on that for about 5-6 years now. personally, it has worked wonders for me. there is no doubt i get depressed easily. i will fret over things i cannot control and really beat myself up mentally. i've been off and on prozac long enough that i know it works for me. i can tell. my body just does not produce enough serotonin. ultimately though it's a conversation you can have with your regular doctor and they can help determine what dosage would be best or if its worth trying, etc. i started off low but they had to bump it up a bit and now im at a good level. it will/can take some time to get that sorted out.
on the other hand im not suggesting you go into your dr and immediately say you want to be on something but they can help.

I've been feeling the same lately, and I think it has quite a lot to do with the Ferguson aftermath. Every day for a while just felt like a punch to the gut that made my stress level rise until nightfall as I awaited what would happen on W Florissant, and even though we've had relative peace now for almost a week, the whole ordeal just feels like wound that will probably not heal for a long time.
