Re: rant: fine dining
The vast majority of times I go to a restaurant I just feel awful within 1-12 hours after eating there, and this place was was no exception. First off, I just hate that super full feeling. I ate a lot, and it was pretty heavy. This food stayed with you, we had 4:00 reservations and I went to be about 11 and still was full. I just hate that. Then this morning - backed up. Struggled for 20 minutes before I got any respectable production. And with all of the food I ate I expected to just explode. All the cheese I guess.

I looked up their menu $52.95 a person? Holy moly that is robbery. Tofu and vegetables 32.95 per person . For 32.95 I can buy enough tofu and vegetables to feed ten vegetarians. Probably twenty with club card discounts, even organic tofu and produce.

It wasn't cheap. Was it a rip off? Of course it was, every restaurant in Chicago is a rip off which is why we rarely go down there to eat. We learned long ago that if you do something in Chicago you just have to decide to do it and not think about the money.
I felt uncomfortably full for about 12 hours which I don't like, but the food was really good and I didn't feel the need to make myself throw up an hour after I ate which has been known to happen. My wife and I were taken there 20 years ago as a gift and we decided that we liked enough to where we figure we'll try to get back in another 20 years or so. That's about the right frequency for this.

Also expect to pay upwards of $100/person with drinks.IMADreamer wrote:Ruths Chris or how ever you spell it. Is that fine dining? Am I going to have to dress up?

You were like 7 blocks from Boka which is fine dining and not pretentious and serves arguably the best roast chicken in the U.S. (so good Lee had it on the menu at Eleven Madison Park when he was sous there) for a reasonable enough price. Its not a fine dining problem, but a going to a crappy overpriced place that should involve buyers remorse and indigestion problem.

Yeah, I looked online. That's ridiculous. I could go buy $400 in meat and we could eat like kings for weeks at my house. I'm not looking forward to this trip.Swirls wrote:Also expect to pay upwards of $100/person with drinks.IMADreamer wrote:Ruths Chris or how ever you spell it. Is that fine dining?
