Well, it's been a rough past week and a half. After a 10 1/2 month battle w/ kidney failure (and us having to give him IV's on a daily basis) we had to put down our little Shih Tzu Gordon at the age of 17. He was an awesome dog & battled until the end. I've come to terms w/ it, even though some days are still hard, but he led such a great and long life for a pup. RIP little guy.

Anybody have experience with their dog having seizures? We've had our dog for 2 and a half years, he is about 4 and a half years old, and he had his first (we think) seizure a couple weeks ago, then had another small one a couple days ago. The vet thinks we will need to put him on seizure medicine, which would be a forever thing. I'm a little reluctant to start that, but the seizures are very scary and we don't want them to happen anymore either...

I grew up with a Maltese that had epilepsy. Either they didn't have seizure medicine back then or we just didn't give it to him (I was a child)...He had maybe one seizure a year and we just kept him on his side and sort of held him until he stopped. He lived until he was 14.

I'll have to tell that to my parents. Their bichon has seizures, sometimes he goes months without them, sometimes he will have four in a day. He's going to be on meds the rest of his life, but anything that can reduces the seizure recurrence is worth it to me.

Sorry to hear that karp. That's a tough thing to go through as a pet owner.

My dog Rocky is only 3 1/2 and I'm a long time away from having to deal with any major health issues like that. But I don't know if I could put him through something like that. Don't want to see him go away but if he got that old you kind of have to think you're basically fighting a losing battle, I think I would just try to make him as comfortable as possible and let nature take its course.

Sorry for your loss though, thats a long time to be with a pet.
