Re: Dogs
As most of you know, I'm a cat person, but I love dogs! I love the idea of taking a shelter dog out on a hike for their own well being and for exposure so the dog may be adopted.

Re: Dogs
When walking the Big Galoot it brought home what magnificent beasts dogs can be, particularly the Galoot.
it was single digits, he just marches out there pretty much unaffected by the temps (paws started to get a little froze after half hour, never the less). He can handle hot weather adequately too.
Since it was cold and lesser beings were inside, I turned him loose - he naturally checks out the bushes, creek bank & several places he's scrounged up food before from caches of dead stuff from other critters, the squirrel and raccoon hangouts, as well as people food including an entire sandwich he once found in the woods.
The only time I've ever seen him scared was when I dragged him onto a frozen pond -probably sensed the danger. Other than that, the dude is fearless, and confident enough to befriend anyone. Sweet and patient as can be with kids. such a friendly face that nobody minds him sniffing their butt and crotch at first meeting. Dogs have mastered the clean launch when pooping. Can sleep whenever he feels like it.
He can hump pretty much any dog he's encountered. If he had balls, he could lick em.
Highly evolved creature.

Re: Dogs
Well, we weren't able to hold off very long in regards to adding a little guy to the family. After our Shih Tzu had passed our other dog started to slowly get more and more depressed as time went on so we thought it would be best to start looking for another pup.
While it wasn't the most opportune time to get a new puppy (winter time and still trying to heal from the other guy passing), after about a week of debating the pro's and con's we decided to start looking.
We had found a guy we were intersted in and held off for about a week we decided to take the plunge!!
Here's the new pup (aka Stanley "Cup") and his older brother Emmitt (both are French Bulldogs).

Re: Dogs
Santa Ana winds started last night and it was so noisy the dogs made me sit with them in a living room chair covered in a blanket all night.

Re: Dogs
not sure if this should be a separate topic, but do any of you have pet insurance and if you do, do you think it's worth it?
I ask because someone wants to give me a puppy (labradoodle), completely free of charge, however it still needs one shot and will need to be neutered.
I've been wanting to get a dog for quite some time now and this seems like a great opportunity, but im in the process of mulling it over, mostly the financial aspect of it.
