They just [expletive] flat out lied to us today. I've got a space heater on right now in my office. I don't think these weather models account for the snow pack. Every [expletive] time they say it's going to warmup to X degrees or whatever when there is still snow on the ground, it doesn't even come close. 10 degrees off. Every [expletive] time.

Ass holes.

Where the models get into trouble is when there is a snow pack to your south. The models see southerly wind which would normally advect warm air to your area so they add a few degrees to the forecast. However if that wind is blowing over snow it can negate any warm air being transported in. A good meteorologist knows this and adjusts. Not all meteorologists are good. Also the sun angle is starting to play a role in warm ups too this time a year which a lot of meteorologists ignore. To be fair the models have been under doing the temp a bit lately in most locations in the Midwest. Most forecasts seem to be running 3-5 off in temps lately. We were forecast for 50 today we made it to 56.

Yeah, what Ima says jibes with STL, where we have even less winter south of us. The forecasts were for mid 50s over the weekend, and temps were in mid 60s

Why can't the dick wads program the models to account for that? Seriously pisses me off.

Apparently the butt holes forgot to factor in the fact that when warm air comes in over snow pack you get fog and [expletive] gray skies all day. Get a brain morans!

Why can't the dick wads program the models to account for that? Seriously pisses me off.

It's a resolution thing really. We simply do not have enough observation stations and computing power to make that happen in any effective way. Models are based off sampling of data. More samples would mean better model accuracy. Hell we have places in this country, in Missouri in fact, that don't have radar coverage. Weather is just not important enough to our govt for it to be better. Write your congressman.

Today the forecast was foggy. So foggy you might not be able to drive to work. Fog fog fog fog fog. That was the forecast. Because that warm air over all of that snow. Well the dumb asses apparently forgot that a bunch of that snow melted yesterday, and I haven't seen one hint of fog all day.

They are like a day behind.
