Freed how old is the dog? He eats well? That sucks they can't find anything, the hip issues would have been the first thing they checked for in that breed and that would have been pretty easy to check so I doubt it's that.

I have heard that lab's have very high pain thresholds, which I believe. Our neighbor had a lab and an electric fence and one day the neighbor was petting it and noticed the dog acting weird - he was right on the line and getting the bejesus shocked out of him but putting up with it for the attention.

This is our little dog with the issue. He's probably 8-9. and we've had him for 5 years. it's a Lhasa Apso which tends to have long life span. He eats well. seems to enjoy life and hanging with us.

I wonder if this guy's health issues stem from inbreeding. He also has quite a few wart-like bumps under his fur (we've had them checked.) I've also mentioned, I really like this little dog - but worth noting, his breed has hardly any capabilities to survive in a natural world. I don't see any special skill set this breed has that would have been useful to it's own survival other than being protective and hilarious - no matter what Wikipedia says about them.

The way humans have devolved dogs by breeding is kind of sad - for example, Lhasa apsos fur would completely envelop them if they aren't groomed. I know I shared this before - a few minutes in wet snow and the dog was completely stuck by accumulation. That personality the has though, it could have cared less that it was doomed, and as soon as I freed him up he was back to peeing on everything.


The lab- the Big Galoot is nearly 12 and seems to be a model of health, ever since he's recovered from that time I nearly got him killed by a tick-borne disease in the woods.

Claims seem weak
My dogs have been eating it for awhile. Galoot is healthy like a horse. It doubtful to be what's causing Fuzzypants his problems. I've got a whole another big bag of it ready to serve up. After that, I will see.

Not good news for Purina though, with how [expletive] crazy these dog people are.

I really don't see how they can win this. For every person who claims Beneful killed their dog, there are countless others like Freed who claim their dogs have been eating it for years with no side effects.

Instead of laying down comfortably, she just stands there shivering. She's going to the vet now. I'm fearing the worst, and can't focus on anything.

Well, the beagle went to the vet, and they had to do an xray, an ultrasound, and bloodwork to determine: It's probably nothing serious. Whew. Not cancer, not organ failure. A slightly enlarged spleen, and some digestive tract issues. But she's not dying. They don't precisely know what it is, but the vet was releaved; when she first looked at the dog, she thought it was going to be a tumor.
