Garbage on Facebook

My dad's facebook feed is nothing but hatred of Obama and blacks in St. Louis (for you see, they are animal criminals), Islamophobia, and his reposts of my pictures of my children. At some point soon I'm going to have to intervene, because I can't stand seeing my kids placed in this context.

Change your privacy settings so he can't share the photos. "I don't know why you can't share them dad. Must be a FB problem!"

Facebook is evil. The only way I can do that is to block him from being able to view my posts/photos. Anyone you are friends with can repost anything you post, unless you make it invisible to them. Which, honestly, is an idea that is on the table.

I was looking at Facebook on my phone this morning, almost every other "post" that came up was an ad. I made a FB page for our pork, they send you some neat info on how many people see your page and their interactions. It's gotten quite a bit of traffic. They wil also "Promote" your page for a small fee. I haven't given them any money but they will get you a pretty high traffic volume for not much money. I don't guess I realized any of this before I added a FB page to my profile. My FB timeline is basically interactive advertising at this point.

Doesn't seem as bad on my computer but FB is made its self pretty much unusable on my phone.

Had to unfollow my mother in law. She shares a lot of right wing junk. The last straw was her sharing a post by Ted Cruz, congratulating Netanyahu on his election victory, saying how Obama tried to undermine him. She's a school teacher.

I met a girl last weekend and we were hitting it off before we shut down the bar with a couple of different groups and didn't ever exchange numbers. She remembered enough of our conversation to find me and shoot me a message on facebook.

It's still great for stuff like that and it always will be - just NEVER read the news feed and it becomes incredibly useful instead of incredibly infuriating.

The quantity of adverts and promoted posts is getting ridiculous. I have the "FB Purity" browser plugin which makes it okay on the desktop, but on the phone it's horrific.

Luckily, I just delete people who are too right-wing. I'll politely try and reason with nonsense a few times, then...life is too short. Like the guy who said Nelson Mandela was a terrorist who deserved no state funeral, no celebration of his life, nothing. I asked if he was aware of what the South African government were like, re: black people, and he was still having none of it. Delete.

I'm a socialist (an actual socialist, not what Fox News thinks are socialists, which is anyone who doesn't want to kill the poor) and my believing or disbelieving in the two-party system doesn't change its existence.
