We've had the same Aussie throughout my membership on this forum. Callie's turning 15 in two weeks. Can't jump four feet in the air to catch my frisbee tosses anymore - can't even walk much faster than a person these days. Visiting home here this week, and it looks like this might be my last time with her. She's totally deaf now, and has lots of rear leg/back issues. Can't go up or down stairs now, and falls over when her back leg gives out. It's pretty sad. My dad gets very attached to dogs; I've been blessed to have two fantastic family dogs, Josie the German Shepherd through my early years and Callie through my adulthood. I am scratchin her back now, she doesn't even want the treat in front of her.

None of this really hit me the first few days home, but I'm pretty sad now. She's still got time - Dad and I are constructing a gentle-slopped step ramp so she can more easily get up the 3 steps between our front door and the yard.

Reading this thread over the years has really helped me come to grips with this, though. So many GRB'ers with fantastic dogs, from pups to elder statesmen. I'm glad for that.

Callie should feel like an ass for kickin the bucket right after I said she had another summer left in her.

I'm not too broken up to be honest. Was so good to see her one last time, and sounds like she passed really calmly.

Sorry Mac. It's a difficult transition.

Not to change the subject, but I am having a very tough time finding an apartment in a decent area in St. Louis without a breed restriction (Shepherd).
