In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court saved the controversial health care law that will define President Barack Obama's administration for generations to come.

The ruling holds that the Affordable Care Act authorized federal tax credits for eligible Americans living not only in states with their own exchanges but also in the 34 states with federal marketplaces. It staved off a major political showdown and a mad scramble in states that would have needed to act to prevent millions from losing health care coverage.

Common sense wins at the Supreme Court over the strident objections of Antonin Scalia. I'm nonplussed.

GOP would have been in a world of hurt coming up with an alternative if the decision went the other way. They would have to actually do something about the issue. I wonder if Scalia's objections were more for show.

We're now in a place where the SCOTUS rewrites laws to ensure they stay constitutional. Is that really a place we want to be? They should have sent the thing back the first time around and made Congress write something that doesn't suck.

They didn't, they just found that the legislative intent was to not write a law that would be interpreted in such a way that would cause the entire system it created to collapse.

I'm so glad we avoided that mess.

I'm glad it was upheld but Conservatives will be campaigning against it forever. It's never going away. But maybe this will force them to come up with an actual alternative.

Also: look at how much time was wasted arguing over the wording of 1 sentence of this bill.
