The Cards should have 7 relievers. And I'm okay with the 6 of those guys. The problem is, 2 of the 6 (Walden and Belisle) are hurt. One is the long man. Maness, Siegrist and Rosenthal are fine.
The guys that showed up in this game that everyone is complaining about are replacements, for the most part. If Walden and Belisle are back, all you need is a replacement for Choate to have a very good pen.
Add in that Wainwright and Garcia, theoretically, could be pitching the double header, but they're hurt. Right now, 2/3 of the starting OF along with the 1B/cleanup guy are on the DL, too.
When you factor all this in with a double header, there's little blame on Matheny and Mo when you consider the big picture. With almost 30% of the 25-man roster on the DL, the team is 5-1/2 games better than any other team in baseball. If they can get to the break with a 4 game lead, I'll be ecstatic.
I would be happy with a split in Chicago. This was the least likely game to win, and they lost. Time to move on.

The point is you do not have to B/S anyone about this....beating the Cardinals or any other team gets you to the ultimate goal (Playoffs)davhern wrote:Huh?fanforever wrote:Radbird wrote:Len talking playoffs since they beat the best team in baseball.

Might not have mattered, but Wong leaving the game hurt the Cards chances to win. Big difference between him vs Strop and Grichuk vs Strop.

It might just be the fact that you guys don't watch them too often, but you kind of have to get their sense of humor. It's very dry and sarcastic.fanforever wrote:The point is you do not have to B/S anyone about this....beating the Cardinals or any other team gets you to the ultimate goal (Playoffs)davhern wrote:Huh?fanforever wrote:Radbird wrote:Len talking playoffs since they beat the best team in baseball.

Kolten Wong (head) passed a concussion test after suffering a head injury in Tuesday afternoon's contest with the Cubs.
Wong appeared to injure himself making a diving play in the fifth inning. After being lifted in the seventh, he passed the concussion test, though afterward said that he still has a slight headache. The Cubs and Cards are playing a double-header and it's a safe assumption that Wong will sit out the second game here. Matt Carpenter will likely start at second in his place.
