Good teams have bad stretches, and it seems like winning the season series against the Cubs should count for something. I'm not concerned yet.

Being five games up on the Cubs and still having the best record in baseball would seem like it should count for something. But no, the Cardinals have been treading water this month while the Cubs have been hot, so they must be better than us now.

This is exactly what I'm seeing, yes.

Other than a few posters who only show up to gloat when the team is losing that I will throw out of the equation, even some of the regulars seem to be expecting doom around every corner and when the team falters, even the slightest, they rend their clothes in despair.

It makes Past Cronos look like a level-headed individual as far as freaking out over a bad stretch. And I'm humble enough to admit how much of an idiot I used to be about that.

The truth is that the postseason is a crapshoot, as the old cliche goes. If we start the season over, do the Cubs finish ahead of us? I dunno. Maybe. But we don't have to. And they may well get bounced in the Selig Game anyway.
