Byrd & Barrel looked really good but I am over the fried chicken trend in STL....time to move onto something else.

At Southern I had a turkey sandwich that was awesome. In their sides are fantastic as well. Their hours suck though

Yeah...I thought it was good too. I think I'd rather go to Quincy Street than Southern.

Yeah...I thought it was good too. I think I'd rather go to Quincy Street than Southern.

Problem is that Q Street is likely to slide back toward being a crappy hoosier bar in time. son in law wanted to stay but grow. Owners weren't interested so he moved on. What he told me anyway.

Oh? I thought I read that he would still be helping out where he could. I've only eaten there once since he left. I had the fried chicken and it wasn't as good. But everything was else was still spot on.

Don't get the steak sandwich. Also - when the wait staff asks "How is everything?", it's just a generic thing they say. They don't really want to know how everything is, because when I told them and my other buddy agreed she didn't really care. Which I don't blame her, I wouldn't care either. She ain't the one who paid for it. Sort of like when you ask someone how they are, you really don't want to hear how they are. You want to hear "Fine, how are you?". Anything else goes in one ear and out the other.

He suggested to me that things had already started to slide back to the original incarnation which was a hoosier bar. Not an insult just fact. I know the owner. And they're still his in-laws so not sure why he'd bash the place.
That said, on my latest couple visits I didn't notice difference either.

I wish he had elaborated more on what began changing! I don't particularly care for his father in law....I offered him some praise once by telling him how awesome everything was and how much I loved eating there. He muttered 'yeah, thanks' and walked away without even looking up at me. And it was 1:30 in the afternoon...I was one of 3 people there so they weren't even busy. Maybe he has a tough time accepting compliments or something...but each time I've sat at the bar and dealt with him he's been very cold.

I hope Quincy Street doesn't go back to being garbage because I like the place and a few friends and I meet up there from time to time to watch games since they literally live right down the street. Since they just had a baby, proximity is key and he is able to slip out for a bit from time to time.

As for Dubliner, I've never liked that place. Although I've also never eaten there. I've only been there late at night when the place is so packed that you can't move and it takes forever to get a drink. Definitely not a fair take on the place on my part.

I tended bar at Dubliner the year the Frozen Four was here. You're right, it was miserable when it got crowded like that. I hated it. Especially the bros ordering six different kinds of shots when we were 4 deep at the bar.

I think maybe Mike's in the wrong business for his personality. Or at least needs someone else to be face of the place.
