Re: Dogs
Sorry Freed.
We are going through the same thing now with my daughters 14 year old yorkie (mister). Its her dog but he always in my chair hogging my space. Mister has lost his appetite, losing weight from his beefy 7lb frame and is starting to have some balance issues.
My daughter just moved to her own apartment and took him with. We are holding on to the hope that it is stress related (as he sits there with his favorite treat right next to him). sigh.

Re: Dogs
The two older of our three dachshunds have been difficult on walks recently. The female is constantly trying to pull me to take a shortcut home, the male that had the back injury gives up about half way and wants to be carried. The youngest one likes to smell every blade of grass and always seems to get cheated because of cutting the walks short. So today I took the older ones home early and went back out with the younger one by himself so he could enjoy a walk in peace. After one block he started limping and favoring his right front paw. It looked normal without sign of injury. He didn't want to walk any more. I carried him home and he walked OK after a couple of minutes. I think the anxiety of being separated was too much for him.

By the way, a recent poll showed two out of three dachshunds like to eat cold, leftover yams.

Re: Dogs
Our 2 little gals have decided to go in different health directions. The older one (11) has what we are 99% certain is cushings disease. Insatiable appetite, weight gain (and she wasn't exactly svelte to begin with). After a half dozen tests, the vets won't treat her without 100% positive confirmation of cushings because treatment could be harmful if she doesn't have it (even though both acknowledge it's the only logical diagnosis). For now she's on melatonin and a raw diet. Not doing any good. The next step would be an MRI. She is so miserable that we want to tell them to go ahead and treat it as cushings, can't be worse than what she's going through now.
Little sister (10) has just been diagnosed with diabetes, symptoms were massive thirst and bladder control issues. She's now getting shots twice a day and on a special diet. And she's losing weight like crazy. Combined they likely weigh the same as before, but it's no longer evenly distributed.
Having completely different diets has made meal time just loads of fun.
