Re: Johnny "the Kicker" Cueto
Cueto was the third best pitcher in the NL the last 5 seasons. There's literally no logic to not wanting him.
If Cueto didn't have that bad half he had with the Royals he'd be getting Price money.

Does anyone remember that he's likely hurt? That alone would keep me away from what would be the largest contract this team has ever handed out.
And the team would never sign him anyway. There's just guys I think this team would stay away from no matter what. He's at the top of the list.

Why do you think that?BW23 wrote:And the team would never sign him anyway. There's just guys I think this team would stay away from no matter what. He's at the top of the list.

Call it the Cardinal Way or whatever it should be categorized as, but I don't think he fits at all with their views of how players should act, treat fans or how it would affect the clubhouse. Just my opinion, but I'd be shocked if they even talk to his agent.

Was there bad feeling towards Price from anyone other than Ortiz?
I think there's a lot of people who'd be very annoyed if the Cardinals signed the guy who basically ended the career of one of their players.

I'm all on board with the Cardinal Way, but I also think you have to overlook an incident here or there if it's out of line with what you normally see from a guy. I don't know Cueto, but I've heard more than once that he is a good clubhouse guy, that the reputation most of us have formed really isn't who he is.
He didn't end LaRue's career. That was the straw the broke the camel's back, but the cumulative effect of foul ball after foul ball was the bail of hay.
But I admit I really don't know Cueto, just a few tidbits here, I saw the fight, I saw him drop the ball on the mound in Pitt etc... If he doesn't fit he shouldn't be in the clubhouse, I agree with that.

I have no moral opposition to Cueto, nor would I Brandon Phillips, who had himself a really nice 2015. That fight is long in the past. I'm more concerned with keeping the Cubs under our boot than I am holding a grudge.

This could be a situation where we witness what happens when you don't overpay to get "your guy". Not that we could've battled with Boston for Price- I think they would've gone into Grienke territory to get David. But if every guy past the big 3(Price, Greinke, and Cueto) is considered overpriced, and you instantly eliminated Grienke and Cueto to start with because of character issues... Then this is where you end up. On the outside, looking in.

Can't we all just get along?
Cueto's agent says, "He’s the best pitcher of our era in the NL Central."
I know he's the agent and they are paid to put spin on it, but... REALLY?
