I have a ring in an oval right now too. I don't know what happened to it to be honest. It's my backup ring now.sighyoung wrote:When my son was really young (maybe two), he picked up my wedding ring off the dresser when I was visiting my in-laws in Chicago, and then he hid it and couldn't remember where he put it. So, I had to do without it for two or three months.
Then, one day, my mother-in-law was vacuuming in the far corner of a room with a thick shag carpet, and CLUNK, she heard something loud and metallic get sucked up into the machine. She immediately suspected that it was the ring, cut the vacuum bag open, and there it was. Bent into an oval, mind you.

My daughter lost her retainer one week after getting it. One [expletive] week. $175.

When I was a kid I didn't like the way my brand new pair of glasses fit, so I did the fitting myself. Cracked the lens. Shattered it actually. Just in one corner, and I thought I could get by with it. I did the Ralphie Christmas Story thing - I so can relate to that scene. Came to the same realization as Ralphie, and made some b-s story up to prevent from getting killed.

Like most of us, I'm prone to lose things, so my wife had a $50 budget when shopping for rings. I still have mine, amazingly. But, three friends have lost theirs at the lake/river and all spent ~$500 on them. Oops.

Diamonds can spontaneously fall out of rings after a while. Last year we were going out to see our son on his b-day (which is also our anniversary), and driving near Chicago. All of a sudden she freaks - stone is GONE. After a few minutes of looking she did find it on the floor of the car. Went to the jeweler and he just said that happens over time. So that stone that is worth god knows what just might pop out without warning, and that's just the way it is apparently.

The only piece of jewelry that would really freak me out is the signet ring passed down from grandfather to father to me.
I thought I had lost it in a public restroom about 6 months after Dad passed away. Couldn't find it anywhere. Then it fell out of the bottom of my pants. Apparently when I was pulling them up it came loose and got wedged in behind my belt.

I'm no good at wearing jewelry. My wife didn't really care so I didn't even bother to replace the ring.
Anyway, if you want another one I'd get an inexpensive tungsten ring. You can find great deals on slickdeals.net pretty regularly. Here's an example deal.
Also, chill out. It's just a ring.
I lost mine the next morning. The day after our wedding we went to lunch with my in-laws. I wasn't used to wearing a ring and was fidgeting with it, set it on the table at the restaurant. Haven't seen it since.
Thankfully it was only a $30 etsy ring, but my wife will never let me live that one down.

The first week or so is torture, after that it's barely noticeable. Good call on going the cheap route though, obviously. It's nice when little gambles like that pay off so quickly.TheoSqua wrote:
