I doubt that...the game hasn't changed all that much. The more in-depth discussions mainly try to describe value or predict production, mathematically. Throw in budgets, schedule, drafting, development, free agency, injuries...and you have yourself a very complex system that people love to analyze.

Me too. Between my typing skills (fast but not all that accurate) and my spell checker and rushing at work it's awful. And I don't know why I don't check before I hit submit, but I don't. I really have a better command of the language then I let on here. I'm actually ashamed of myself in threads where sigh is in. I feel like I'm just ruining his day.
This. Once I see sighyoung, I immediately try to take my time, and re-check...it's weird.

I think I misphrased that. I understand the game. I played from 5 until 14 and have watched my whole life. What I meant was more that I'm neither a SABR guy, nor a scout type guy...This kind of places me squarely in the camp of well-informed uber-fan, I guess. LOL. It's not like I'm intimidated to jump in. It's just that most of the time someone says the same thing I would've said, only they say it faster and more intelligently.
I used to get almost all of my information from the social thread. I'd rather go there than to msn.com or fox or huffpost or nytimes or etc etc etc.
All the important stuff is brought up without having to deal with the inundation of over information.
People find something interesting and post it and because they found it interesting, they're generally pretty well informed on the information. The outer space thread is a great example. you get the same news without all the unnecessary stuff. And, if it is a big thing, it's generally a good article that's posted.
But, witht he Scalia thread, I didn't even know who he was. I was pretty sure he was the conservative justice that ruffled a lot of feathers, but as soon as I opened the thread you see people celebrating. I knew my hunch was right...but that's pretty much the opposite of what I described above regarding using GRB to obtain information. And, really it's pretty despicable.
This type of stuff happens more and more. If you want an update on a GOP debate, you can go to the political thread and read a bunch of the worst tweets sent out, but you can't get any content.
It is what it is. I don't care, but I certainly understand where people are coming from.

For me, it's kind of like playing fantasy sports. Unless you're totally immersed in all the moves each team makes, pay attention to prospect sites, etc, your knowledge of the players gets pretty dated pretty quickly. The Cards moves (non-moves) had me pretty blase about the offseason.
Edit: Also, I haven't been on the site near as much as I have in the past, so it saddens me that a member like jim feels the quality/membership of the board has eroded, but I'm still glad that he feels comfortable to express it, rather than never to be seen again (I know he's done that for awhile before). That goes for anyone here; please always feel free to express your feelings about ideas and the tenor of this board. Even though I visit less frequently, ten years running and it's a security blanket for me.

That's kind of me with baseball. There are other guys here that will say it better. I kind of just sit back and learn in the baseball section most of the time. Lot of smart guys there and no need of me goofing it up.
I pointed it out because I didn't want to give anyone the impression that I am not immune from saying crappy things about people and to people - even when I'm joking. I pointed the finger at myself as an example of how I've seen things slip.
