Unemployment is declining, and if nothing else commodity prices have decreased and are really low. So even if wages aren't increasing, people have more money....and there are more people with more money since there are fewer unemployed. And wage growth is coming soon if it hasn't already. Maybe that's the last thing the Fed is waiting for.

Urban Outfitters is asking salary employees to work for free on weekends, calling it "team building" and "a volunteer opportunity":

Free labor is great for the economy right?

Re: Our financial system is crumbling this week.
From the description, that seems bad. For a quick counter experience, I used to work at corporate HQ for a retailer and a couple times a year we were asked to help out at a store in the area to help provide a helping hand during the busiest times. The tradeoff was that we got the afternoon off in exchange for our ~4 hour shift at the store(which may have been in the afternoon, evening, or on a weekend). The URBN story doesn't mention that part, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was part of the 'details' the email alludes to. If it is, then this is a non-story.

I may have said this before, but I know a lot of cooks who refuse promotions and keep two hourly jobs to avoid the $35k salary game. They work a little more but make a lot more money.pioneer98 wrote:Urban Outfitters is asking salary employees to work for free on weekends, calling it "team building" and "a volunteer opportunity":

Those kids are going to have to pay for the carbon they're sneaking home on their faces, right?sighyoung wrote:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline ... Individual programs? We spent almost half a billion dollars and bought a plane called the G222 that couldn’t fly, couldn’t be used by the Afghans. We bought 20-something planes and ultimately we had to scrap them. We had to turn them into penny- and nickel-sized pieces of scrap. That is what the U.S. taxpayer got out of that. Over half a billion dollars totally wasted, and nobody’s been held accountable.[/quote]

Sure people were held accountable. Those responsible for approving our tax dollars being diverted to the G222 program have been duly compensated and made safe for re-election. Those who did not play along will not be re-elected.
