The fact that we even have a thing called a spelling bee just proves how completely [expletive] up the English language is. I don't know how anyone learns how to read or write it to be honest with you. I tutor English as a second language and I just tell them [expletive] it, don't worry about how you spell something. The reading though - I just have to shrug my shoulders and say it's totally [expletive] and you will never learn it all, sorry. I swear sometimes they look at me like I have lobsters flying out of my ears when I try to explain yet another exception.

I came four places away from making it to nationals when I was in sixth grade. Still one of the most proud—and disappointing—moments of my life.

I was invited to the state finals but decided to go to my basketball game instead. I think i made a good choice.

A Chinese spelling bee would be cool. You would need an easel.

Jim, I agree about English spelling. It's ridiculous! Id be ok if we went to a phonetic spelling standard like Spanish. Do they even need spelling class in Latin countries?
