Re: rant: fine dining
A customer just told me that they hated their lunch, which I thought was strange considering the fact that they ate all of it. It turns out that they were just making a hilarious joke and they really liked it.

Why did they do that?Freed Roger wrote:The bastards at Flemings only honored $75 of my in-laws $100 gift certificate they received this past Xmas.
Doesn't make sense to me to piss someone off over $25.00

If it was donated and expired they were doing them a favor by honoring it at all and if it was actually paid for then that isn't legal.

my brother&sister-in law from Chicago area gave it to them for Xmas. There may be some loophole, but my brother-in-law was pretty pissed to find out about this. I'll figure out what happened.haltz wrote:If it was donated and expired they were doing them a favor by honoring it at all and if it was actually paid for then that isn't legal.

Apparently there is an inactivity fee that can be issued after a year. I'm shocked they'd do that. If that's the case, he definitely should be pissed.

Re: rant: fine dining
In that case I would call their corporate office. My roommate used to manage Fleming's in Frontenac and says he doesn't have a clue why they wouldn't redeem it and it's illegal etc.On May 22, 2009, the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009 (Credit CARD Act)1 was signed into law. While the law’s title suggests that it only applies to credit cards, the law also created new consumer protections for gift certificates, store gift cards, and general-use prepaid cards through amendments to the Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA).2 Specifically, section 401 of the Credit CARD Act requires disclosures for gift certificates, store gift cards, or general-use prepaid cards fees and expiration dates; limits dormancy, inactivity, and service fees for these cards and certificates; and establishes a minimum period of five years before the underlying funds for these cards and certificates can expire.
My guess is that they were gifted a bonus/promotional/reward (maybe discounted) card that's not backed by money and is excluded from the protection of the EFTA. The underlying funds are what's protected, so some certificates can be fully or partially exempt. If that's the case, it has to be clearly stated, so in a way it's both a [expletive] gift and user error - but even then I'm still surprised they wouldn't honor it. Most places never say no even if they can.
The bonus cards you get with holiday gift cards are valid for like a month. We do that too. If it was a deal like this and partly a bonus it makes sense.
And with a Fleming's Gift Card, they’ll have a chance to explore our award-winning list of 100 wines by the glass and indulge in our prime steaks, expertly prepared by our chefs.
Plus, for a limited time, we’ll give you a $20 Bonus Card for every $100 you spend on Gift Cards.*
*Bonus Cards valid 1/1/2016-2/10/2016. Bonus Cards are accepted at participating Bloomin’ Brands restaurant locations in the United States. Gratuity, taxes and alcoholic beverages not included. Limit one card per visit, per table. No cash value. No replacement value if lost or stolen. No reproductions will be accepted. Not valid with any other discount offers. Will not carry an unused balance. Maximum 10 Bonus Cards per order.
