Eaton = Reyes, Weaver, + Helsly
Fowler = money

money < Reyes, Weaver, Helsly

I think we won.

First, he reportedly agrees to a 3-year, $35M deal with the Orioles at age 29.
Then, he backs out of the deal, and takes an $8M, one-year contract with the Cubs (+$5M buyout the next year), and wins a World Series.
Now, at age 30, he lands a 5-year, $80M contract.

Wow... talk about a gamble paying off.
Too bad they didn't sign him last year.

I'm looking at that lineup and thinking it is a slugger short of being pretty damn good.

It's amazing how signing one player shuts up all the naysayers on this board and all of a sudden the [expletive] and moaning stops almost completely.

Yep.

How was Encarnacion at 1B?

Still think I would prefer Turner at 3B.

Wrong. Three different people -- Frank Cusumano, Derrick Goold and Bernie Miklasz -- all said Fowler was hesitating about playing for the Cardinals. It is your theory that Bernie was ripping off Cusumano's information, which is pretty ludicrous.

Either way, the bigger contract won out, but that doesn't mean Fowler is unsure about playing for him.
That's completely incorrect. None of those guys said that Fowler was hesitating about playing for the Cardinals.

Cusumano specifically said on his radio show that there were "rumors" about Fowler not wanting to play for the Cardinals. He didn't say he had a source, and he didn't say that he believed it.

Miklasz stuck a passing blurb in the middle of one of his columns where he "questioned" whether Fowler wanted to play for Matheny. He didn't say he had a source, and he didn't say that he had heard anything to that regard.

When Goold was asked about it, here was his response:

"I don't know if that's the case. It would have to come from Dexter Fowler, and not some guess or speculation".

"If Fowler has a personal reason…I’d rather hear it from them than a second or third source guessing.”

This stuff should be moved to the "false news" thread in Social, quite frankly. It's absolute 100% speculation with no foundation.

And if Fowler is dodging and stalling because he doesn’t want to play for the Cardinals’ manager, then DeWitt and Mozeliak might want to explore the reasons. But that’s another column for another day. This is about the Cardinals being more aggressive about spending money on players they want.

I don't even know how to take this. Why would Bernie even make this comment if he didn't know something? Or maybe he is being very irresponsible.

And the "column for another day" makes it sounds like he knows something. Or maybe he doesn't. Who knows?

If he knows something, then why wouldn't he just say "sources have told me" or "I have heard"?

Maybe he would. It is possible I am making a mountain out of a molehill, but this entire fiasco just seems odd to me.
