People that are calling for Turner or Encarnacion are going to be disappointed. Look at how much they are taking about how out of their comfort zone Fowler was. You think they're going to sign two top 5 FA in one off season? I would be super surprised.
It almost doesn't make sense to only sign Fowler. The pick is gone, money's there and this only gets the Cardinals partially where they need to be.

Honestly, I think even with Fowler and then Turner (or whatever fat American League DH/1B some of you guys think the Cardinals should sign), you're still a clear step behind the Cubs. It closes the gap, without a doubt, but... yeah. It's a big gap.

That said, it would also make you a virtual lock for the Wild Card. And just because you can't close the gap doesn't mean you shouldn't improve where you can. Which is all my long-winded way of saying that I'm all in for Turner. But just be aware that Turner and Fowler aren't going to put them on par with the Cubs right now.

oh yea, over the top for the wild card, but i mean even with a turner/encarnacion in the middle of the order....thats an offense thats putting up a lot of runs

Fowler (CF)
Marp (1B) (3B)
Turner/Encarnacion (3B)(1B)
Piscotty (RF)
Diaz (SS)
Grichuck (LF)
Molina (C)
Wong (2B)

Zobrist (OF)
Bryant (3B)
Rizzo (1B)
Schwarber (OF)
Russell (SS)
Contreras (C)
Baez (2B)
Heyward (OF)

Cubs offense still looks better, but the cards lineup can compete. jmo

The team stepping outside their comfort zone has allowed me to step out of my discomfort zone. Just don't stop here. Remain active.

Their defense is still better too, although ours is getting better. Turner would help close that gap some.

I really like this deal. $16.5mil AAV? Even if he just puts up 8-9 WAR over the length of the contract, it's at least market rate when factoring the rise of salaries in the future. Plus, he's done at 35/36 years of age? It's a solid contract.
