You know what? Until I started the tourney, I actually thought the NIN version was also a cover. I knew Cash had covered it, but I thought he did his version back in like the 70s or something and that the original was from like the 1950s or 1960s. I had no idea NIN wrote it in the early 90s and that Cash covered it in 2002 only a few months before his death.heyzeus wrote:SECRETS:

Sidenote: I don't listen to much Johnny Cash, and didn't even really start listening to it until the mid-2000s when I was finishing up college.

Not sure of this, but I think it was recorded not that long after June died, so it came across as extra emotional in light of that.Swirls wrote:You know what? Just threw your dog song a bone. Remember that when my Cash cover comes up in a future round.heyzeus wrote:SECRETS:

Would that be quid pro quo? Need a legal opinion please.

That's just a bilateral contract. Nothin' to see here.Radbird wrote:Just threw your dog song a bone. Remember that when my Cash cover comes up in a future round.heyzeus wrote:SECRETS:

I hate you Swirls.
All I ask is that y'all listen to that Uncle Tupelo cover of the Iggy and the Stooges classic. It's twangy! It's fun! It would make a great soundtrack to a movie fight scene in a honky tonk!
I'm going to lose, and I'm angry.

Uncle Tupelo did some really good covers. I like "Give Back the Key to my Heart" and "Moonshiner" a lot too. This is a pretty rough matchup though.

Preach. I'll be (futilely) voting against the overplayed-and-overvenerated-to-hell-and-back Cash cover every damn round.heyzeus wrote:SECRETS:

I believe Doug Sahm played with them on Give Back.
Jay also did a nice understated cover of Ron Wood's Mystifies Me on Trace.
