I have the same feelings on all your points.albertmvpujols wrote:I like Sobotka as well, but definitely too much money. I can't remember if he left for money or wanting to be a top 6 player or a combination of both, but if money were at all a factor before this was the type of deal it seemed like Armstrong didn't want to give back 3 years ago. Now that he's 3 years older and not played NHL level competition for 3 years he gives him the deal? Just seems really odd. I'll be happy to see him back as I generally liked him, but like you stated this is a steep cost for a guy we have a plethora of.JCShutout wrote:I love Boat, but waaaay too much money. The Blues HAVE to be planning on Vegas taking Jori, or throwing someone a draft pick to take him, or buying him out. Otherwise we have too many centers. Sure Stastny is gone after next year, but we got Thompson, Sanford, Barbashev, and cash for a FA, and Boat isn't a scoring line center.
Hey Armstrong, stop spending lots of money on third line forwards and 3rd pairing defensemen when you have gobs of kids who can do that [expletive] for the league minimum.

If I remember correctly, he left because he wanted $3M a year and the Blues didn't want to pay more than a little over $2M so he left for the KHL. I just can't remember if the Blues won the arbitration before or after he left but either way, it was over money.
Saying it was over less than a million makes him sound greedy. Saying the Blues were offering nearly a third less than he wanted makes the Blues sound cheap. It was probably a combination of the two. I love numbers though. You can make them fit your opinion by just changing the way you present them.

Looks like the Blues need one point in the next 2 games to clinch 3rd. Lets just win tonight.

The OT win last night does it. Blues vs. Min in the 1st round. Lets get them back for a few years ago.
BTW, Barbashev centering the top line seems like a thing that needs to continue to happen. Just sayin.

The Blues have the longest Cup odds of anyone in the WC. I get a large part of that is being in Chicago's bracket but somehow we still trail Nashville who's also in that bracket.
Also, if the series with the Wild goes seven games, it's going to take 15 days to complete. It starts out fast enough with games 1-3 every other day, but there are two days between both Games 3&4 and 4&5.

I'm really just hoping the kids get some good experience and actually get some ice time. That and a couple of wins so we aren't embarrassed. A series win is gravy IMO.

The way the Wild have scuffled in the second half, it is a first-round series the Blues should win. I'm going to be pretty irked if they make a first round exit.
I get that this is probably a throwaway year. But I don't like throwing away Tarasenko and Petro years.

If they go to a game 7, I'm going to Minneapolis for it.

Then you can watch it in a bar with me while the game takes place in St. Paul. (Sorry, couldn't resist)Leroy wrote:If they go to a game 7, I'm going to Minneapolis for it.

I admit that I pretty much only pay attention to hockey when the Wild are in the playoffs or the Gophers are in the Frozen Four, but I do look forward to watching some hockey over the next couple of months.
