A talented player we wanted probably woke up thinking he would be a Cardinal, but by the end of the day signed with the Sox.

Project the White Sox out 3-4 years and I don't know if they are really that far behind the Cardinals. The White Sox had the #4 farm system according to most lists before this signing.

Good luck projecting 4 years out.

Ding ding ding.

Also, it's not the first time we've heard of something like this. Remember the rumors that Fowler was hesitant to sign with the Cardinals. And heyward was hesitant to sign with the Cardinals.

It's like a yearly tradition. Well, we offered the same or more money but players wouldn't come here.

They could be ahead of the Cards. Or still in 4th place in the AL Central like they've mostly been for as long as I've been alive.

Still having a hard time believing that $$ was overwhelmed by a video pitch. Please.

The FO may be taking over 3 million people a year for granted.

If a video pitch won out over the Cards then they didn't offer near enough. If the team won a bidding war every now and then it would be easier to swallow whatever excuse they offer up.

The Cardinals outbade the White Sox and still didn't get him. If that's true, I'm pretty damn angry. Is it the same "I want to be with young players blah blah blah" that Heyward gave?

The only player where we heard either concerns about the Cardinals or concerns about St. Louis before the fact was Fowler, and that got done because we offered more money than anyone else. That's why I'm still inclined to believe money was the dominant factor.

Are we kind of getting the feeling Mozeliak and Matheny just aren't really all that good without Luhnow's farm system?

If the Cards offered 10% more than the White Sox then you're being unreasonable about what they should offfer. Instead they need to look at the perception of the organization and maybe the city.
