Next 2 years

Think it's 300k if I remember correctly they can't go over the next 2 years...which was why everyone was saying, this was the guy; this was the year. Youre basically out the next 2 years on the int signings, and your draft this year is toast.

They've systematically decreased payroll to 43% of team revenue from 53% (10 years ago)

Wouldn't want to mess up good work like that.

It was obvious that the White Sox had an advantage on the comfort level aspect, so if the consensus is he's worth $25 million you blow everyone else out of the water and offer $35 or 40. Losing out on the potential surplus value an elite prospect can provide over 5 or 10 million is silly. If the Cardinals aren't going to be players for the Machados of the world, they have to win on guys like this.
I agree with the sentiment but if he's most concerned about money, why did he allegedly not take the top money offer?

Do we know it's ownership and not the GM?

We're certain the Cards were the top money offer? Mo's press conference seemed to indicate otherwise.

From the P-D:
“I don’t know yet if we are the bridesmaid,” Mozeliak said. “People are like, ‘You’re flushed with cash. Roll the dice.’ That’s a lot of money. That money might be redeployed elsewhere now. It will.”
How many times are the only journalists they pay attention to going to let them get away with saying this?
Indefensible

There are allegedly reports the ChiSox were outbid. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=61120&start=70#p1749704

I raised the same question that it was the Cardinals. I don't know the ChiSox were outbid either but if that report is true, the question stands.

Mo's comments hinted that he would not be given any more money than whatever he bid.

Listening to Mo though, it sounds like the Cardinals don't think he's as good as he's been hyped to be but I can't tell if that's how they honestly feel or a cover up
