“It’s going to put more on our plate, for sure,” Lackey said Wednesday night, hours after Victor Caratini was promoted from Triple-A Iowa to take the roster spot of veteran Miguel Montero, who was designated for assignment.
“There’s a learning curve coming into the league. We’ve all done it, even when I was young kid. From what I hear, (Caratini) has been hitting well in Triple-A, we’ll see what happens.”
Lackey admitted it’s “definitely nice to have a veteran catcher” but acknowledged the Cubs’ issues run deeper than just the lack of catching experience.
The expectation is that the Cubs will add a veteran backup as starter Willson Contreras barely has one year of major league service time.
