I know how it feels. I just recently cancelled Showtime, just before HBO dropped Cotto. Cotto then went on to sign a deal with Showtime, and is fighting in November with Margarito on the undercard. I see myself getting Showtime back again, at least for a month.

Boxing is starting to make somewhat of a comeback on basic cable between ESPN and the Versus channel (formerly OLN). Unfortunately Versus will never get any big fights and ESPN is too focused on The Contender.

Anyway, I was being sarcastic about the "fight of the year", at least with the Valuev fight. Barrett is a bum, and Valuev just looks like a freak show. As robbotis said, Adamek/Briggs should be good though.

I figured you were being sarcastic but I kind of wanted to see the harry seven foot freak fight. I wouldn't go so far as to call Barrett a bum. Saw him at the Savvis Center fight Owen Beck and he showed quite a bit of heart. He was hurt several times and managed to knock "What the Heck" Beck out. I, however, can't imagine him being powerful enough to contend with Valuev.

Adamek-Briggs will be awesome.
Versus is trying to put on a good show.
At least they are showing some good prospects.
They can do that until HBO scoops them up and then puts them against bums for a fight or two.
But hey, they know how to make stars.

What a waste of fifty bucks on Saturday night. On paper, the card looked very intriguing with Paul Williams in the second fight, a promising young fighter defending his featherweight belt in Guerrero, and Mayweather fighting the biggest man he has ever seen in the ring. Didn't quite live up to the hype though.

The heavyweight bout was dreadful, as most hw fights are these days. Pakau, a last minute throw-in due to the original fighter being 30lbs over-weight, was completely over-matched by Williams. Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero was exactly what his nickname suggests in his fight. And the main event may have been the worst fight of the evening. Less than 300 landed punches combined in a 12 round fight = BORING!! Baldomir proved to be just what I thought he was, a big welterweight with no punching power that has no chance unless his opponent just stands in front of him, i.e. Gatti and Judah. And if PBF thinks he is deserving of a huge payday against the likes of De La Hoya, he better show fight fans more than the pit-pat and run style he showed on Saturday.

At least the Cotto/Margarito card will wrap up the year.

I hate everything Mayweather.
At least we'll get to see a beat down Saturday on regular HBO.

Maxboxing: Who has a shot at breakout stardom in '07?

Pretty good list, despite not knowing some of them.

Not in the article, Andre Berto, looked mighty impressive on Saturday as he continues to climb the welterweight division one KO at a time.

Berto did well.
Taylor will soon be worked. Probably by Calzaghe early next year.

I agree. Despite having Emanuel in his corner now, Taylor continues to do the same things over and over. I have never seen someone continually back-pedal with their hands "in their pockets" and still beat the opponent to the punch. He has gotten by on sheer athleticism and being the bigger man up to this point. That won't be the case anymore if he moves up to 168.

Calzaghe would annihilate him, imo.

Don't mean to highjack this, but it's not totally off topic... Anyone watch Ali Rap on ESPN. I dvr'd it and just watched it last night. Pretty interesting. I guess I never recognized the influence he had on the rap world. But I also think they stretched the point an awfully long way to make the connection.

Ali, as in Muhammed Ali? I didn't know/realize he had an influence on rap. Despite not enjoying much rap music, it sounds interesting.
