It’s expected the Cubs will try to make another similar move, perhaps chasing Giants right-hander Jeff Samardzija (three years, $59 million left on his deal) or Rays right-hander Chris Archer (four years and $34 million left if two team options are exercised).
Neither of these two deals are going to happen.
Goold notes that the Cardinals have had interest in Brandon Morrow on multiple occasions in the past and notes that he could well be a target if the Cardinals ultimately decide to pursue multiple arms and have a competition for the ninth inning next spring. He also adds that St. Louis will likely pursue top-end closers (e.g. Wade Davis, Greg Holland), though the Cards will have obvious competition on that front. Any who track the offseason closely, especially fans of the Cardinals or other clubs in the NL Central, will want to take a full look for some insight into the Redbirds’ upcoming plans.
Please no on both Davis and Holland.

I'm certain one of Davis, Holland or Reed will be a Cardinal next year.

And Morrow's arm will presumably fall off the first day of Spring Training if it doesn't fall off tonight during Game 7 when Roberts throws him out there.

It wasn't too long ago that Moore was generally regarded as one of the, if not the, worst GM in the league. On par with Brian Sabean of the Giants.

Amazing what a couple decent playoff runs will do for your credibility.
Well yeah and doing it in a place like KC, too

He made some questionable moves at the MLB level but they drafted and developed pretty darn good under him
They had some highly ranked systems 5-10 years back, but they really haven't produced that many good players. Gordon, Moose and Hosmer all took forever to pan out into decent players and they were all top 5 first rounders. Their system right now is pretty ugly. Moore made a couple really good trades selling Greinke, buying Cueto, and Shields/Davis, but he has kind of lucked into being perceived as a top GM. They are going to be bottom feeders again going forward unless they suddenly start spending more.

With an extra-inning loss to the division rival Cubs on September 28th, the St. Louis Cardinals were eliminated from postseason contention, marking the first time the club has missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons since 2007-2008. However, the future of the organization looks bright. An invasion of talent from the minor leagues came up this season to support a core of proven veterans, and the continued development of that fresh crop of talent alone will probably help the team take a step forward. The Cardinals have a deep roster and a bit of wiggle room in their payroll to fill in the gaps, including a potential big one in the rotation should free agent starter Lance Lynn decide to sign elsewhere.

I figured this would get missed in the minor league thread, but Keith Law was on Bernie's show this morning. He really likes Mags Sierra and thinks he could be something special in center field. He thinks Bader is someone's regular in a corner. He likes Mercado, but isn't high on O'Neill. He's come around some on Weaver, thinks Hicks has potential for three above-average pitches and that Hudson will be fine in a rotation. He complimented the team's minor league pitching depth.

Well, Law knows what it means to be undersized and speedy.
