If we threw multiple versions of an offer, depending on the level of money we'd assume, out there and SF's package was still better I'd be a monkey's uncle. But I do wonder if any of the offers we floated had us taking on ALL the money..

The Giants lost 98 games and don't have a lot of room to grow. If Stanton approves, he's not prioritizing winning. If BG's tweet is right, time to move on.

Counterpoint. The Giants have won 3 World Series in the last 8 seasons, and made the playoffs more recently than the Cardinals.

They also have one of the top starting pitchers and the best catcher in the game.

Though I trust Bob Nightengale about as far as I can throw him.

Acceptance is easy because we would be paying a guy into late-30s when we know it never works out. The team still needs to consolidate the depth and prospects into a single roster spot. Stanton move accomplishes this but there’s so much risk.

IF the Giants get Stanton....The Giants to me look a lot like the Angels when Albert went there. Yes, there are differences. The Giants are probably in better shape right now than the Angels were then. And Stanton is younger than Albert was when he went to the Angels. But the Giants' stars are older (Trout was just 21 then, Bumgarner is 28 and Posey is 30). If the Giants get him, this is obviously a "win now" move. Bumgarner and Posey are free agents in the next few years. So I guess the hope is Stanton opts out after 3 years and then maybe it's time for a full rebuild? The thing about the Giants that reminds me most of the Angels is the Giants' lack of depth, and not many prospects on the horizon. It will be a couple star players, a handful of average players around them and then scrambling to plug holes with random guys. Maybe they trade Shark or Cueto for younger depth players, but those are players you generally keep when in "win now" mode. Another thing is that the Angels didn't have a team like the Dodgers in their division. I would not bet on the Giants overtaking the Dodgers even if they get Stanton and get rebounds from the players who had down seasons.

The San Francisco Giants have offered second baseman Joe Panik and two prospects for Stanton and second baseman Dee Gordon, according to Sirius XM Radio’s Craig Mish.

The Miami Herald previously reported that the Marlins want to trade Stanton, Gordon and third baseman Martin Prado in an attempt to trim payroll from $115 million to $90 million.

According to Mish, the Giants are offering right-hander pitcher Tyler Beede and left-handed hitting outfielder/first baseman Chris Shaw, in addition to Panik, but the Giants want both Stanton and Gordon in return.
