I just hope that either a deal gets done soon with him coming to the Cardinals or that Miami drags this out so long that everybody moves on alternate plans and the Marlins are stuck with the huge salary for even longer.

I'm getting tired of constantly hearing different people say that he won't come to St. Louis if they win the bidding. Just get it over with.

This Stanton storyline is bad for my alcoholism. Or good for it. One of those.

I still have a glimmer of hope but it appears about time to stick a fork in this one.

The Dayton Times Dispatch Daily is reporting that Giancarlo Stanton hates provel cheese, loves lutefisk, and ate salmon for dinner 2 weeks ago, according to sources close to Stanton.

(we have officially entered the part of the off-season that I [expletive] hate)

I don't think so. Looks like Stanton's trying to bring the Dodgers into it, but that will fall flat. Marlins are trying to draw more teams into the bidding to increase the price, as is the usual practice. I think both of those will be futile efforts and the club and Stanton will swing back around to the offers that we already know about - SF and StL. Maybe SF has slightly better odds, but I think it's pretty close.

We should not have expected anything to be done before the Winter Meetings, and that looks like it will play out. Marlins have no reason to accept a deal until they know all the players have played their hands. Even if we wowed them with a huge deal, they'll still shop that deal around for another week hoping that someone will be even more stupid.

Nothing about the recent info makes me think we're any less likely to obtain Stanton. I still think our real comp is the Giants. I don't think the Dodgers will get involved, and I don't think the Yanks are serious.

Yeah, it actually makes me more positive than I was last week. Marlins and Stanton are hunting for more offers. We're just being patient waiting for them to come back around and give it our final push. I think that Stanton will accept a deal to StL or the Cards would know about it by now and would be making noise in other directions.

They ought to figure out how to draw more fans into their building instead.
