he seems way more interested in BPV and making sure that develops as he wants it to so he can just own downtown.

There's honestly probably more money in that than baseball.

A winning team and winning the WS probably tops out at X revenue. Bottom line is always money. Winning just enough to sustain interest and keep above water financially is the true motivation to win.

The Cardinals (as of today if the roster holds) are conceding the division. They'll focus on competing with Milwaukee, Arizona, and Colorado for the wild card spots...and hope "they get hot or other teams are not" in the playoffs. There is still a lot of dust in the air, though. Not a lot happening so far this offseason.

I don't think that's their focus. They'll see where ticket sales are at the deadline, and if they're lagging, they'll buy to jumpstart it. Record won't matter.

I feel like you guys haven't been watching what the Cardinals say and do for the past 22 years that they've owned the team. They never come out and say any big, bold statements about player acquisitions and winning divisions/championships.

I don't really care if they do or not. Generally they put a pretty competitive product out there, and they consistently compete. Actions speak louder than words.

I don't think they are done this offseason.

I won't disagree here. They're typically secretive. This just feels like when they lost on Heyward and Price; they rolled up the sidewalk, and stopped looking at alternatives. Well not entirely, I guess we did end up the Leakester. And while we've rehashed all but Upton being a bust from that off-season, it just blows when the team says they don't see upgrades in the market when its obvious to the world that there are.

We didn't lose out on Heyward. We won by avoiding that terrible contract.

Truly, we have not changed our philosophy at all. If we can upgrade at a relative discount -- and Ozuna represents that -- then we'll do it. But, if we have to pay full price for players, even at a position of need, we pretty much refuse to do it if we have some kind of plan B that might be workable.

Didn't we pay full price for Fowler and Cecil last year? 2 positions of need at the time.
