When we talk about Fowler being an overspend are we talking about in terms of years (or total dollars if you prefer) or AAV?
I'd agree on the former but not on the latter.

I think everyone would be much happier if they added one more all star caliber type player. They have the money and prospects to do that without threatening their long term competitiveness at all.

I'd certainly be happy with that, as long as the deal makes sense. For example JD Martinez is an All-Star caliber player who we can probably afford right now, but he doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the Cardinals to sign (IMO).cardsfansince82 wrote:I think everyone would be much happier if they added one more all star caliber type player. Availability of all-star type players seems to be a problem right now. It's not just the Cardinals. Nobody is wheeling and dealing.

I’ll be happy when this is all over and I can quit reading “puke point” all the time.

I think there's more than it seems. Most of the contenders don't have payroll space or holes to fill and most of the rest don't have a lot of incentive to make moves. The Cardinals are positioned to take advantage of all of that.Socnorb11 wrote:Availability of all-star type players seems to be a problem right now. It's not just the Cardinals. I definitely agree. For whatever reason, everything seems to be at a stalemate right now. It's like a massive game of chicken.
I also agree that 1 more all-star level player (pitcher or position player, really) feels like it would push the team over the top. Hopefully they can find that guy.
