Who cares? It was collectively bargained.

This helps smaller market teams out alot. FA prices are coming down to a place they can afford AND it incentivses players to sign long term contracts with their teams.

The author is harping on how fast "average" revenue is rising faster than payrolls, but 5-6 markets could yank the average upward while the median remains fairly unchanged. Are Cincy, Milwaukee, and Cleve really experiencing tremendous growth in their revenue?

Owners are billionaires and they are whining about paying players who make significantly less money than them and are the ones who do the actual work and bring in the revenue.

Owners are disgusting.

I don't think they're whining.

I could also say "Players are multi-millionaires and they are whining about not making enough money, while you and I (the ones who pay their salary) can hardly afford to take our family to a game to watch them play".

Yeah, without those disgusting owners, I'm sure ballplayers could find a way better paying job than the lousy ones they have now.

They could.

Owners are born into their situations. And if they aren't they use nepotism/privilege to acquire capital to do so.

F*** owners.

That sure sounds like J.D. Martinez, under the influence of Scott Boras. Who doesn’t seem to have a whole lot of sustained interest this winter.

If so, I still don’t think it is overt collusion. It is MLB teams being collectively smart about not giving a Martinez type the deal he is reportedly seeking. In the past, it only took a couple of idiots to chase the bait. Now the teams with money have generally moved past huge deals for deeply flawed players.

Well, either Martinez or Hosmer.

I think Martinez is more likely. There's at least some chatter about Hosmer being offered 7 year deals.
