I think the Cubs are significantly better than the Cards. That's why I think making marginal moves like adding Addison Reed aren't much to get worked up about. Do the best you can in 2018, and then go all-in for 2019, when the pieces should line up more to our liking.

So the Reds are nipping at our heels? What're the odds for the Pirates once they approves deal for Cole? No. There are 2 teams very clearly at the bottom our division. The top? Wait till Chic acquires a closer. The current atmosphere is a little murky for the top 3 in the central. But the Cubs aren't done.. Theo is just waiting to breath after laughing for so long after reading Mo's quote before he adds to their bullpen.

I'll hold out until winter is over, but the Cardinals appear to keep doing what VEB's red baron described last year as making a surgical strike on an area of weakness and moving on (Peralta in '14, Heyward in '15, Fowler in '17, Ozuna in '18) without further improving. It's clear they want Donaldson and it isn't going to happen. And the rest of the free agent/trade market doesn't provide much upgrade. But come on, they passed on Addison Reed for two years?

Ok, so we all know this now, right? We are absolutely committed to building almost exclusively through the draft and player development. We will fill a crack in the system opportunistically (Ozuna, Fowler, Peralta) but our eyes are almost exclusively internal. Great way to build an 83 win team consistently. Impossible way to build a real contender unless you hit the lottery (Pujols) or tank intentionally (Cubs).
