They know the advantages they have, and they are using them. I'm not sure we do the same.

Darvish will bust. Lets hope the Cubs get him.

The Cubs had the 3rd highest revenue in MLB last year, yet the 8th highest payroll.
Isn't this exactly the type of thing that we're criticizing the Cardinals for?

A World Series will do that I assume.
Also assuming that Cubs payroll is climbing and ours isn’t.

The Cubs payroll dropped last year, AFTER they won the World Series.

My mistake.
I guess I didn't see too many holes to start that 2017 team though. They lost Chapman but got Davis. I guess they could've added a starter before 2017.

Chicago is smart and not willing to pay for wins that are likely meaningless. I'm pretty glad that we have edged into range of the division, but I would go along with McCrowe's pessimism on this topic--as soon we are actually close in the standings they will open up the wallet for real and try to cement their position. As it is they just aren't that keen to go from 93 wins to 96 for whatever ridiculous price that would cost, when we project as maybe-90 at present. The other shoe is waiting to drop for their rebuild you ask me.
On the positive side they really have emptied their farm to levels I think aren't being discussed enough. That gives me some hope.
