Yeah, I would have done that Frazier deal. That’s bench bat money, and he could have competed with Gyorko/Wong to start.

Moose would probably fit the roster better as a LHB.
Yes, but Frazier is from NY and may have taken less money to be the starter.

Very good signing by the Mets.

Do the Cards have the ability to add payroll?

And this isn't about DeWitt.....but if we compare last year's payroll to this year's, is there room for another player?

Moustakas probably can get multiple offers at 3yr/$40M or so. At that price, he likely will pick the team that offers him the most playing time like the Braves or Yankees.

Last years' payroll was at $151.2M. This year we are at $141.6M.

We usually increase payroll around 5% a year which puts us at $158.7M, giving them roughly $17.2M to spend still. Goold said earlier this off-season that they can go up to $170-175M in payroll before getting stretched so....

Good info, thanks!

I wonder if Arrieta would accept 2 years at $40 million?

Not just that but we were told last season that Robert wasn't signed so there would be money to improve the major league club, and, well....

The point about Frazier maybe willing to take less for a NY team is noted, but if that's the price of free agents, then honestly just sign somebody who's decent to good and worry about fit later. We know injuries are going to happen.

Also, Moose over Garcia or Voit or whoever he replaces probably improves the team by a win. And yeah, you still probably haven't changed the ceiling any more than that because you added another 2-3 win player, but you've added another layer of insurance and could give something an off day every 5th day.

I would prefer the pitching, but yes, 3 years/$40 million for Moose seems reasonable.

I thought Mo said they didn't sign Robert because, if he became a major leaguer, they'd just have to pay him more money?

I think the underline, as we've heard before, was that we'd have more money to allocate to the big club. Same song, same dance.
