If we (societal 'we' here) weren't--quite reasonably-- obsessed with Trump, I think the fall of Travis Kalanick would be everywhere. Fascinating drama with billions of dollars, big personalities, lying, cheating, Korean prostitutes, and even Trump himself.

I read that article and there wasn't really much new in there, at least from the big picture. There were some details that were new, like him being brought out into the hallway during a meeting to see the dashcam video, and him writhing on the floor. Also, Arianna Huffington wanting to give Uber drivers "nap pods" and "meditation wristbands" but not health care or retirement benefits was awesome.

I hope this accident brings down this company. The world will be a better place for it.

Next up, Waygo.

Oh - and by the way - get off my damn lawn.

Now it's being reported that the car and/or back-up driver behind the wheel may not have been at fault.

The video cameras on the car showed the lady, with her bicycle laden with a bunch of grocery bags, abruptly stepping off of the median and into oncoming traffic. There was a well lit sidewalk nearby she could have been using.

Uber is a deplorable company, although I still use them 1-2x a month because I get $15 in free rides every month. Once my credits are used up I'll usually switch to Lyft.

Whether or not they're at fault, they're still a shoddily run company. Although they've gotten better now that Kalanick is gone.

Tempe Police release footage of fatal crash from inside self-driving Uber

The video of the crash makes it look like a not-distracted human driver would've at least slowed a little. The sensors or software on the car certainly seemed to have failed as well.

I thought it odd that the ‘driver’ wasn’t paying attention at all. Figured that in these test runs it would be like drivers ed.

Not sure a person would have seen it in time, but agree on the sensors. The victim doesn't seem to have been looking at all.

Person absolutely 100% would not have seen it in time. It's not even close.

I refuse to watch the video because I enjoy sleeping, but sometimes slowing down isn't the best approach to avoid a moving object. Sometimes it's better to speed up before it gets in your way.
