Yeah. They think Husso will be ready in the next year or two, so signing Johnson for a year keeps him from being blocked. If he's still not ready, you go back to look for another one year deal for a backup.GeddyWrox wrote:Ville Husso is the next big prospect, but I think he's young still. It seems, if Husso is legit, signing Hutton would've blocked him unless they could've moved Allen. I don't think they were ready to give up on him yet.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm good with signing Johnson then. Makes perfect sense.JCShutout wrote:Yeah. Here's a list of free agent goalies for next year. It's a bit out of date because it still has Fleury. At least a few of those guys could be starters if Allen falters and Husso doesn't pan out.

edmundson signs 1 yr/3 mil deal...looks like the gives us only about 1 mil in cap space right now.
gunnarsson and jaybo come off the books after this year/good chunk of change...wonder if they try and unload someone here soon for this season? 1 mil in cap space is not a lot to work with if something pops up.

They also still have to sign Schmaltz. They’ll have to move some salary eventually, whether that’s Gunnarsson, Bortuzzo or something else.

I think you'll see one of jaskin/barbashev/sundqvist/thorburn no longer on the team in the coming weeks.
I mean there are just too many players on the forward side imo. Your top nine is likely some combination of:
Tarasenko / O'Reilly / Steen / Schwartz / Schenn / Bozak / Perron / Maroon / Fabbri.
That leaves the following: Jaskin / Thorburn / Soshnikov / Barbashev / Sundqvist / Nolan / Blais / Kyrou / Thomas / Sanford
And some darkhorse candidates: Foley / Kostin / Bokk / Stevens, etc.
So that's 10+ forwards for roughly 4 spots on the roster. I can't imagine they're all going to count against the cap.

Re: 2018 - 2019 Blues (Hockey) Season
The Hockey News had an article that the Blues may still be trying to get Panarin from the Blue Jackets, but salary would have to go the other way. Panarin is on the final year of his contract and has said before he wants to play in a bigger market. The Blues may either try to win him over playing with Vlad, or it could just be a pure rental. Either way, salary would need to go out. Presumably, Steen or Bouwmeester if they waive their NTCs with the Blue Jackets getting a good prospect (probably not Thomas, but maybe Kyrou or Kostin) in exchange.

Yay on $3m for Eddy! What I think he's worth. If the Blues could somehow get and keep Panarin... I'd just be speechless, and sooo happy!!!

Yeah, that would be amazing. I haven't seen anything besides speculation but still, it's fun to think about!JCShutout wrote:Yay on $3m for Eddy! What I think he's worth. If the Blues could somehow get and keep Panarin... I'd just be speechless, and sooo happy!!!

What’s a Panarin? I thought that was what the rest of the country called Breadco.
