Venezuela's former treasurer took $1 billion in bribes

Post by mikechamp »

What a low-down, no-good person!
BBC News wrote:A court in the United States has sentenced the former head of Venezuela's treasury, Alejandro Andrade, to 10 years in prison for money laundering. Andrade, 54, had pleaded guilty to taking $1bn in bribes in exchange for offering access to preferential foreign currency exchange rates.

He has been living in Florida, where he owned jets, mansions, 17 show-jumping horses and a fleet of luxury vehicles.

This guy rules. $1bil is doing some serious work. I was skeptical of the pbs frontline doc that speculated Putin might be the richest man in the world based on the value of his grifting since the iron curtain fell, but if this Venezuelan bureaucrat can grab a cool bil, Putin could easily grab more than 100.
