Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread
I’m sure the “defense wins championships” crowd is vehemently supporting that game as entertaining.
The Rams and Chiefs played a 54-51 game this season that still had as many or more big defensive plays. It was an incredible game.
Last night was not.

I'm actually somebody who is perfectly happy watching a low scoring game dominated by the two defenses but as you said, last night was terribly boring. The score wasn't low because of dominating defenses, it was because of missed plays all around.MrCrowesGarden wrote:I’m sure the “defense wins championships” crowd is vehemently supporting that game as entertaining.

the game was boring no doubt, but the pats did shut out the #1 and #2 offenses (in the first half) in back to back playoffs games.
also, the rams DC did a nice job of shutting brady down.
not really my cup of tea superbowl game, but both were impressive.

Deadspin article on Kroenke - "Don't Forget That Rams Owner Stan Kroenke Is A ****bird With Bad Hair" is worth a read.

Some big defensive plays is completely different defense wins championships. If you were a student of the game in the way you are of baseball, it wouldn’t be that hard to see how defensive scheming and strategy won the day. That said, Goff is a system product and the Rams O line had a bad night (due to schemes?).MrCrowesGarden wrote:I’m sure the “defense wins championships” crowd is vehemently supporting that game as entertaining.

As a St. Louisian that was probably best case scenario for an awful situation. A lot of things came together to make the NFL look bad on its biggest night.
Everyone was mad about this matchup to begin with. The game was lame AF. The Rams lost. The Rams did not even score a touchdown. The MVP went to a player who was suspended earlier this year for PED's. The commercials were boring. The halftime show was bland. We didn't even get any left-shark quality memes to talk about.
I always enjoy defense oriented teams and wouldn't complain about a low scoring game. But this was a boring low scoring game. There weren't a lot of big hits or big plays. Not a lot of big defensive stands or drama. Just offenses that couldn't really move the ball.

The most exciting part was the immediate post-game open-mike scurrying around Brady.
See, even the conversation about how boring the game was, is boring.

The commercials were boring because everything is so politically correct these days and no one has a sense of humor anymore.Hoot45 wrote:As a St. Louisian that was probably best case scenario for an awful situation. A lot of things came together to make the NFL look bad on its biggest night.

Regarding big hits...whew...there sure was an opportunity for a new england defender (van noy??) to absolutely lay the wood on goff, but he showed good restraint prolly because he knew he'd be flagged for crushing the QB, regardless of whether or not the tackle was clean.
I forget the exact play but it lead to a 3rd and 22 or something like that.

I remember what you're talking about. It was lining up to be a bone crushing hit. But I think Goff kind of dropped to his knee too, so both players took the easy road out of that one.go birds wrote:Regarding big hits...whew...there sure was an opportunity for a new england defender (van noy??) to absolutely lay the wood on goff, but he showed good restraint prolly because he knew he'd be flagged for crushing the QB, regardless of whether or not the tackle was clean.
