I haven't finished season 3 yet, but Stranger Things is a homage to cheesy 80's horror B movies. That's why I'm totally fine with the ridiculousness of it all. Stranger Things reminds me of "USA *UP* all night" movies and I mean that as a compliment.

I can't stand horror that takes itself too seriously and tries to make everything reasonably believable. For example, I couldn't get past the first 20 minutes of Netflix's "The Haunting of Hill House" because it wasn't pulpy enough. Ghosts aren't friggin' real so let's not pretend they are.

I liked season 3. Thought there was a little too much Hopper, but it pays off.

The Russian stuff sort of felt like a different show, but I was fine with it. The underground base is completely implausible, and also totally fine with me.

Hopper and Joyce constantly fighting did not. Granted that an 80's (and earlier) romcom cliche, but one I'd rather leave behind. Hopper was mostly a dick the whole season.

I thought they made enough of a hand-waving reference to how it could have happened to even keep some plausibility. The mall is new and the same corporation that owned the mall owned the land that had the bunker/lab that was not too far away but also very much out of town. Sure, someone probably would've noticed the transport of stuff from the mall area to random woodsy house, but in a show with a shadow realm and a mind control monster that takes corporeal form by assembling the flesh of his victims like horror legos, it's not something I get hung up on.

If you like David Fincher, you will like Mindhunter. It's very Zodiac-esque.
