September call-ups; Cards say no to Carlson

Post by MinorLeagueGuy »

Of course, that's barring injury AND a change of heart. They just want him to continue playing through Fall, and be ready to compete for a "significant" role next spring.

We'll most likely see Randy Rozo, Jr Fern, Rangy, and maybe Knizner.

We'd have to add him to the 40 man and start his service clock. On the other hand, pennant chase.

With O'Neill and Martinez due back soon I just don't see us adding him to the roster at this point. Arozarena only got limited playing time when he was up and in the middle of a pennant chase they'll be just sticking with the starters for the most part the rest of the season.

Martinez, O'Neill, Ponce, and Knizner are probably locks. I also think they will almost certainly add Fernandez and a third lefty (Gomber, Cabrera, Shreve?).

I could see that open 40 man spot going to either Mayers or Shreve. After that it becomes how many more guys do you want to add. Probably at least Sosa or one of the OFs will come up if only to pinch run.

Need a called-up pinch runner to trip or get picked off to to end the season

These prospects are ready to take bad baserunning to the next level. Time to study with the master.

Went to the Springfield Cardinals game tonight. Gomber looked really good. Fastball had good velocity (91-95) and the curve looked great. JMart barreled up everything and was smoking the ball.

This being the last year of fully expanded rosters in a way kind of sucks. So basically the Brewers GM made it his mission to change this rule. If you're one of the teams with only 28 players on your roster in September then you basically suck at producing new talent and you're tired of getting a disadvantage for sucking at your job at producing minor league talent. This is how a lot of young players first get their major league debuts and a look against a higher level of competition. Especially helpful for teams out of the playoff hunt and chance to see the young kids play.

Cardinals recalled LHP Genesis Cabrera from Triple-A Memphis.

Cabrera holds a 6.17 ERA over five appearances -- two starts -- with the big club this season. He'll will give the bullpen some length.
