Re: Coronavirus
The actual number of US cases is probably already north of 100k. We don’t know because our “leadership” doesn’t want to know.

Re: Coronavirus
Someone here was saying "Hey don't worry there are still no confirmed cases in our area". And then a news article came out that only nine (9!) people in our entire county have been tested.

Re: Coronavirus
It's puzzling to me but even at this stage, so many people still don't see what is coming, which is global economic devastation, and not just for like 2 weeks or a month.

And then it will get better. Prepare to fight this thing. Forget about the economics - everybody is going to get hit. Then when we have the all clear, pick up the pieces and move on.
Hopefully, this will be Trump and the GOP's Hoover moment and America will elect a real government. I hope liberterianism dies on this hill as well.

My wife's mom said seeing store shelves like this reminded her of every day life in Romania back in the Ceaușescu era....

Agreed. The thing that's disappointed me about all this is how people who talk a country with such allegedly strong religious beliefs, has gone straight to "everyone for themselves" as soon as there's the first whisper of a crisis.Joe Shlabotnik wrote: ↑March 16 20, 7:48 amAnd then it will get better. Re: Coronavirus
Hoo boy. So...we all do our part to flatten the curve and we can weather this storm. If we don't, I can already tell you that we haven't even started building out additional containment rooms at area hospitals and we're already severely short on materials needed like hepa filters, visqueen, and other essential materials. Our supply chain was right-sized efficiently for normal demand.
Edit - Redacted some stuff for employment reasons. I can't tell you how I know but it's first hand from a major hospital system. First hand isn't a misuse of the phrase, either. For employment reasons I can't go into more detail, but if you're on the fence about isolating and you have the option, you need to do it.

Re: Coronavirus
Yeah that's the biggest reason epidemics need quick containment - so the health system isn't overwhelmed. The us system is going to be overwhelmed with a hundred foot tsunami. If we aren't careful, we could see legions of health care workers killed. It's going to come down to stark choices - the elderly or your health care workers?
