Re: Coronavirus
It feels really weird to hate being stuck at home but still have no desire to leave it. Feels sort of like leaving my car running in the driveway and being unable to go out and turn it off. Just a constant, low grade anxiety.

Re: Coronavirus
I genuinely have no problem with this part of it, outside of anxiety that my kids might be hating it. Though they also seem fine. We don't really go out a lot, and we work in the yard/garden so it's been fairly normal. I miss movies though, and had just gotten back to going semi-regularly.
If I were alone I'd probably hate it, even though I'm very introverted. You need some interaction.

Re: Coronavirus
i'm an introvert, live alone and not great at meeting people (cause i generally hate people) and since i moved 6 months ago i only know some people at work and 2 old relatives of my father who happen to live in GJ. i was actually forcing myself to go to bars since late feb or so on saturdays for happy hour and was kinda liking that even though i still was solo...but even i can admit it's weird now...er i feel that it's a weird situation. that said, my exercise has gone up and my substance intake hasn't gotten worse so i count that as a win.

Re: Coronavirus
Good coping skills, jo. My consumption has gone up slightly but I’m sticking to late evening only usage during the week, which is good.

Re: Coronavirus
Today I'm upset with nursing homes. It costs somewhere like $100,000 a year to live there. Now the homes are complaining that they can't pay staff adequately, take necessary precautions, blah blah. I've spent a lot of time in these places over my lifetime, way too much. I don't feel sorry for the companies at all. I feel terrible for the residents for having to pay that much.
Just another thing that seems like 'charge the hell out of them, it'll get paid somehow'.

Re: Coronavirus
In-school learning in IL is officially over for the 2019-2020 academic year.
I suspect shelter-in-place will also be extended to the end of May, though that has not been declared as of now.

I work in the nuclear industry-gotta keep the lights on.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote: ↑April 3 20, 6:45 amDang, Sparks. Take care man. It sounds like they are doing what's possible to prevent the spread while staying open. Of course, with that many people it's almost impossible to completely prevent it especially if employees are not following state/federal distancing guidelines. If you don't mind, what field are you in?sparks wrote: ↑April 3 20, 6:29 amThere has been at least one confirmed case at the site. They have made a press release and emphasized everything that they are doing to prevent the spread by following and exceeding the CDC guidelines . Pre-testing has become more conservative. They are sending workers home with possible symptoms and co-workers that have worked in close proximity to them. They are now requiring workers to wear masks when working within 6 feet of another worker. They have cleaning crews cleaning areas that have larger populations of workers. Cleaning those areas twice within a 24 hour period. The cleaning crew is wearing disposable full body suits with full face respirators. They have wrapped my work area with plastic hanging from the ceiling and taped off a perimeter to keep walk up traffic to a minimum. I share a desk with a person on the opposite shift as me and both of us scrub the desk, keyboard, phone multiple times a shift. Every day I go to work there is a new rule/requirement and honesty I kind of oddly remain very aware of it but also numb to it at the same time. I can only imagine how many of us have it but are asymptomatic.sparks wrote: ↑April 1 20, 6:12 amThey told us yesterday that there are 2 unconfirmed cases reported on site and one of the people had been in my office area. Today they told us one of them was confirmed and if you had been in "close contact" with the individual then Occupational Health Services would have already notified you. I knew it would show up and am not the least bit surprised how soon.sparks wrote: ↑March 30 20, 6:16 amI work at an "essential" plant that is having an shutdown that started last night. The plant has about 650 employees and have brought in about 600 - 700 supplemental employees. A lot of these supplemental employees have just left another plant that just finished their shutdown. The company has brought in extra contractors to continously wipe things down (hand rails, door handles, phones etc.). They have medical professionals staffed around the clock to do pre-access checks on everybody that comes through the gate. They have sent people home for a minimum of 14 days if they have family members with unconfirmed symptoms. So on one hand they are doing everything that they shouldn't be doing with regards to social distancing and on the other hand having a presence performing preventative measures with cleaning and isolating potential carriers. I am "lucky" to be isolated in an office with 11 other people and have people sitting about 5 feet from me on both sides.
All that being said I am pretty anxious about the situation to say the least. I am not over 60 but the fatality reports seem to be getting closer to my age. The area I live in is far from being a hot spot but my perspective is that it is a disaster waiting to happen. Nobody has had a Covid test that I am aware of. The Gen Xers and Millennials seem to be handling it like it is no big deal. Their attitude is, without a doubt, elevating my anxiousness.
So the shutdown has been completed and to the best of my knowledge there were only the two confirmed cases. I am pretty amazed that there were only two confirmed cases considering they had a lot of people in limited spaces. Overall I think the company did what they could as far as cleaning and providing the best possible ways to social distance while at work. They provided N95 masks to everyone on site and set fairly strict guidelines for when they needed to be worn. Numerous people were sent home if they answered any of the questions yes as far as fever/cough/exposure. My department went from essential on site personnel to non-essential as soon as the shutdown completed. I won't need to go back in until at least June 1st.
I am very lucky to still be employed.
