From the article in the twitter link above:
St. Louis Cardinals' Hall of Famer Lou Brock, who had fought through a number of medical conditions in recent years, died Sunday afternoon. He was 81.
Brock will be remembered for many accomplishments. He was the National League’s all-time leader in stolen bases with 938. He had 3,023 hits. He was a first-ballot electee into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
But he may be known mostly as the centerpiece of what was perceived as the greatest trade in Cardinals history. Or just greatest baseball trade ever. On June 15, 1964, the Cardinals acquired Brock, a raw, 24-year-old outfielder from the Chicago Cubs in a trade that cost them popular righthander Ernie Broglio, who had been an 18-game winner for them the prior season although he was 3-5 in 1964 and perhaps injured.

This makes me very sad. A symbol of my youth long faded.

Re: RIP Lou Brock
The first Cards game I was ever taken to (I was far too young to remember) was Lou Brock Day, honoring him after his retirement. Just an absolute legend, icon, and gentleman of this game. I’m a little heartbroken here. I want Brock and Gibson and Ozzie to live forever, just as I wanted Stan the Man to. Thankfully, in a way, they will.

Of all the great Cardinals who played in that era; Lou Brock was my Grandma's favorite. He made an appearance at a grand opening of a Sears of all places; and I drove her there to wait in line and meet him. He was incredibly nice to her; and I never forgot that. Great player; great man.

Re: RIP Lou Brock
This has quickly become my most liked post (that bar wasn’t very high). In the early ‘70s, I averaged about 40 games a year in the LF bleachers when home from college for the summers. The Lou! Lou! Lou! t-shirt Is from ‘74 and says Brock’s Bleacher Bums 105 on the back. A very sad night with a lot of memories.
