And it won't be long before Gibby, Shannon, and McCarver join in. :-(

As I stated earlier, he was my boyhood idol, but I still had trouble understanding at first why this hit me so hard. As I reflected more, I recall imitating his style when I started playing as a kid, like his batting stance, pop-up slide, & stealing bases. My friends/teammates even chanted "Lew Lew Lew" whenever I reached first. I guess I'd always known, but the memories reminded me that Lou Brock, along with Jack Buck & my dad, was originally why I'm a proud Cardinals fan to this day. I'm a member of this board because of him. He became even more special to me as I grew older, as I realized what type of person he was, a man with class, dignity & grace. I thank you Lou, RIP.

He was an incredibly classy guy. My family got to meet him on a flight from STL to Midway, as we were all heading to Cooperstown for the HoF induction ceremony. He was smiling, and everyone who met him was, too.

Fun fact: He and his wife were good friends with Juan Marichal, who was also on the same flight.
