Very weird. Second Chicago team to fire him. But this was surprising, considering they had a great season

Was he an [expletive] or something? Because they just went from 17 games under .500 to 10 games over (in a short season) with solid performances from good young talent.

Renteria has a rep for being great at building teams with young players; the Cubs dumped him when Joe Maddon became available and they wanted to be more splashy. Not sure why the Sox would have a problem with him. Maybe they are going to hire Ron Roeniecke.

According to Nightengale (I know), it's because they didn't like his bullpen management down the stretch.
