It was Harmon Killebrew Night; a film Harmon made had been scheduled for Late Night's Film Festival from the previous November, but due to lack of time it was bumped, so the show devoted the entire hour to the baseball great on this night.

Charley Pride was to perform "Mountain of Love" in the studio, but due to inclement weather in NYC, he was stuck in Dallas. But he sang the song anyway, over the phone, with the World's Most Dangerous Band.

I didn't know he was black until maybe ten years ago. I'd always heard his music and enjoyed it but never looked into it much. So one night I'm up super late because my then GF was out of town and so I couldn't get to sleep. I'm flipping through and one of those cheesy music infomercials come on about country classics. Well they show him and I was shocked.
