That also makes them no different than any other existing union, prioritizing present members over future ones.
I do think there is a problem with solidarity within the MLBPA, but ain’t that America. I think the actual problem though is Tony Clark is a terrible negotiator willing to give up significant bargaining chips in exchange for trivial matters, like nicer postgame spreads.

Right. Except that the highest paid UAW guys don’t make 60-70x what the rookies make. Nor do they have problems with finding jobs for guys looking to make 20x what a rookie makes, when they provide no more value.
The MLBPA needs to find a way to flatten the salary curve across the first 10 seasons for players, particularly the pre-arb years. The stars can still get paid, and they will. The businessmen who own teams are going to continue to be businessmen.

They need better leadership is what they need.
I also think “businessmen will be businessmen” isn’t a good excuse for being bad human beings even if it’s true.

Who is excusing it? If you want to extract more money out of them, you have to beat them at their own game.MrCrowesGarden wrote: ↑December 24 20, 8:54 amThey need better leadership is what they need.

According to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates are trading Josh Bell to the Nationals.
Jon Heyman of MLB Network adds that Pittsburgh will receive minor league pitchers Eddy Yean and Wil Crowe in return. Bell had a monstrous first half in 2019, but he struggled down the stretch that year and batted just .226/.305/.364 with eight home runs and 22 RBI over 57 games during the condensed 2020 campaign. The 28-year-old is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter and projects to command north of $6 million, so the Pirates are dumping some salary here as they continue their aggressive organizational rebuild. Washington, meanwhile, gets a middle-of-the-order hitter to plug in behind Trea Turner and Juan Soto.

Business negotiations. They have misjudged what really holds value on their side, and the owners have exploited it.Famous Mortimer wrote: ↑December 24 20, 3:14 pmWhat game? Being a billionaire? I mean, we can continue to pretend like owners should care about more than making money, but they aren’t going to change. They built billion dollar fortunes by being shrewd businessmen. Sure they buy a team as an exercise in vanity, but when presented the opportunity they will revert to wanting to make money. These are people who can afford anything they want and won’t run out of money, yet they keep working to make more money. It is just how they are wired.
Again, not excusing their behavior. Just know your enemy.

Re: MLB Off-season Happenings
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that outfielder Kevin Kiermaier is "next on the trade block" for the Rays.
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times previously mentioned Kiermaier as a trade candidate and the possibility seems more likely than ever now that the club has reportedly reached a deal to send Blake Snell to the Padres. The 30-year-old is owed $11.5 million in 2021, $12 million in 2022 and $13 million (or a $2.5 million buyout) in 2023, so the Rays would surely like to have some additional flexibility with their payroll. The three-time Gold Glove Award winner hit just .217/.321/.362 with three homers over 49 games this past season, but his defense in center field remains top-notch and he offers excellent speed on the basepaths.

Winning playoff series in 2 of the 23 years they’ve existed. Trading your best pitcher on a below market contract two months after you went to the World Series. You may not like it, but this is peak performance.

Im going to get tired of watching the once "also rans" turn the league on its ear. This is the part of the cycle I dont like.
